EST Updates: New prospective memory exercise!

Hi Reader,
โ€‹
My handouts are often inspired by real-life patients. I created my newest handout for two of my current patients - both high-functioning people experiencing new challenges with managing their lives.

You can find the link to the new free PDF below, in the "Featured EST post & handout" section.

In the "Something worth sharing" section, you'll find a video library of aphasia and cognitive-communication exercises for patients. This looks like a great option for home exercise programs!

๐Ÿง What I'm working on

One of the reasons I started my blog was purely selfish - to help me keep track of the things I learn from continuing education courses and SLP-related podcasts.

So, it's a bit humbling to open a PDF to find a handout that I made several years ago and have since forgotten about.

Some are perfectly fine, and I've started using them again. Others needed to be updated.

Speaking of updates, so far, I've updated 13 of my handouts, totaling 30 pages. Some of these updates took an hour or more, while others only took around 15 minutes.

Slowly, but surely!

I've earned many continuing education credits by listening to courses as I drove from one patient's home to another.

โ€‹How to improve prospective memory. Ever forget to water the plants or buy stamps? Or forget why you walked into a room?

Those are failures in prospective memory, or remembering to carry out planned tasks.

In this post, I share a 3-pronged approach to therapy, along with a research-based treatment plan.

The post includes the original patient handout, along with a new bonus exercise!

โ€‹

  • โ€‹SpeechFlix is a Netflix-style video library of exercises for speech therapy exercises for adults. The videos cover speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cognitive skills.
  • I just learned about this site two days before this newsletter goes out, so I don't have personal experience, but I think some of my patients would really like this!
  • SpeechFlix offers free videos you can access without an account, as well as a free 7-day trial, so you and your patient have options for trying it out. Here's an example: Voicemail Messages (intermediate).
  • If you try it out (or already use SpeechFlix), I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks for reading!

(To the best of my judgement.) It's taken me quite a long time to figure out how to achieve this. And let me tell you, I really...
