I'm so excited to be sharing this patient success story! My patient "James" was barely talking when I met him, due to aphasia. I tried my usual therapy methods for the first month and didn't get far.

Then I learned about a new aphasia treatment on the Speech Scope podcast and decided to try it, even though it seemed too easy.

But it worked! James was telling long stories and cracking jokes by the 5th session!

You may have noticed that this newsletter is late and on a different day than normal. I apologize if this caused any disappointment or concern.

Life happened.

I took my laptop on vacation to my hometown, fully intending to finish this blog post and send out this newsletter in July.

But a family member went into the hospital the morning after I arrived, so I spent part of every day there. I didn't want to give up family time to be on my laptop.

And then I returned home to a garden gone wild. My partner and I planted a bigger garden than we've ever had before, but then he had a bicycle accident and tore his rotator cuff. So, while I LOVE being in the garden, all the work is now on me.

Which means much less time for writing.

He has surgery next week and will have to keep his arm immobile for 6 weeks (and then a long, slow recovery after that).

So I will be busy helping him with ADLs, doing the household chores, managing the garden, and learning how to preserve the food.

It hasn't been an easy decision, but I'm going to skip the second newsletter for August and the first newsletter for September, so I can focus on family and home during this stressful time.

My next newsletter will be Friday, September 18.

I'm changing the newsletter to the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month. This way, I won't procrastinate until the weekend and lose family time sitting on the computer.

I hope these changes don't cause any inconvenience. And thank you if you read this far!

I am so close to finishing the handouts for the first spiral-bound book! Only 9 more to go, with 34 handouts ready to publish (82 pages so far).

My August vacation has morphed into an after-surgery staycation, so my plan is to finish those handouts soon.
