🔊 EST Updates now has an audio newsletter!

Hi Reader,

I love audio. I listen to podcasts, videos, and audio books all day long. I've been wanting to use audio for my blog, but it always seemed pretty daunting.

I recently discovered a new platform for creating and sharing audio, Spoken.press. It's in beta now, so it's free to creators and listeners for a few more months.

I created an audio version of my last newsletter. Please listen and let me know what you think! It's not exactly the same as my email newsletter. For example, I go into more detail about the resources I share.

Also, just FYI, the introduction is in my own voice, then I hand it off to an AI voice. That AI voice is based on a real human voice actor, and she gets paid by Spoken.press even though the newsletter is completely free for now.

I think this is brilliant, because I am NOT a professional speaker! It probably took me four takes and nearly half an hour just to record my short introduction. I'm still not 100% happy with it, but it's good enough!

I'm sharing a resource from my blog that I use all the time to help me find a specific, real-world outcome to target in cognitive-communication therapy.

🎧 Under "Diverse Voices," you'll find an interesting round table discussion among care partners of people who have Parkinson's disease.

🌟 Under "Interesting, Useful, or Fun," you'll find:

  • Free resources for treating Wernicke's aphasia.
  • Free resources for aphasia.
  • New blood test for ALS.

Write better cognitive goals with 54 daily activities. I love this resource! I made a list of 54 real-life activities that require cognitive-communication skills that I've worked on with my patients. Ever have a patient say they want to improve memory but can't come up with a single real-world outcome they want to see? Happens to me a lot. I hand them the 2-page checklist to help identify a concrete goal to work on.

  • 54 daily activities checklist - This handout has been so helpful to me in my clinical practice. I put it in a sleeve protector and hand it to a patient (or family member) to use to identify concrete goals they want to work on in therapy.

Hi Reader,After realizing that my executive function training is not ADHD-friendly, I've been taking a deep dive into adult ADHD. In my first post, I hope to raise awareness about key points that we should know. I'm planning on writing a follow-up article on what ADHD-friendly executive function training looks like. If you know of any good resources, please let me know! I know I usually talk about Medbridge, but I also really like SpeechPathology.com. If you sign up for a new subscription by...

Hi Reader,I've fielded a lot of questions lately about how to do AAC evaluations, so I thought I would share my tutorial. I'm also sharing a foundation that offers grants for free AAC equipment and more. On a personal note, I had a great vacation in my hometown. I met up with a friend, I borrowed a clarinet to practice for a July concert, and my sister sent me home with lots of gardening tips and ideas. It was great to spend time with my family. I hope you have a relaxing vacation planned!...
